If Eizen's character is about grasping the rudder that dictates his path, it includes fighting against what he calls the constraints with which he was born. Berseria tips its hat to the contradictory nature of humanity, who can be as emotional as they can be logical. On a somewhat related note, Eizen carries his own contradictions in other facets of his life, found chiefly in how he regards his earth affinity and curse.

Most malakhim embrace their strengths by capitalizing on their elemental affinity. Tales of Zestiria's Mikleo makes exceptional ice cream, and Lailah is skilled with any dish that requires heat. While Eizen makes full use of his earth-affiliated artes, he also voices his discontent: Due to his association with the earth, he doesn't do well with water, which is more than a little ironic when he's a proud pirate.

Eizen is disgruntled when Aifread laughs at his inability to swim. He toils to learn how, but his affinity and curse both work against him. Eventually, he manages to stay afloat with the aid of a floatie, and he considers this a milestone. His lack of shame is significant, for he acknowledges the effort and willpower that got him this far.

Not one to be satisfied with the status quo, Eizen goes out of his way to challenge himself. This unrelenting drive is the fist with which he conquers the life that has threatened to knock him down for so many centuries.
