Present: King Gaius

Sometimes, the serious ones have the strangest quirks, and all of Wingul's surfaces around Gaius in artistic form. There is no thirst in the world like his for Gaius, either: The CM song he drafted for the commercially successful "Gaius dumplings" says it all (and the fact that Gaius banned it even more so). This from the man who helped conquer a divided country with his brilliant mind:

A delightful something, it's the Gaius dumpling! Touch it! Pet it! Eat it! Share it! Two layers of sweet, and one sour too . . . Just one bite and it takes hold of you! Hail the King of Sweets! All hail the King! All praises be to the Gaius dumpling! No time for rhymes, no time for puns! Get your hands on those sweet buns!

Please take this moment to hear Kaiji Tang's rendition of the song. Mr. Tang is the voice of Wingul in the localization of Tales of Xillia (his other roles include Owain from Fire Emblem and Ren Kouen from Magi). He also sang Sound & Fury, the battle jingle Gaius and Wingul composed to accompany their linked mystic arte like a pair of boys playing soldier:

Too many tribals, too many rivals, no hope for survival! But don'tcha worry! In a hurry, it's the Sound and Fury! In a flurry, they make a scurry, when we make our arrival!

Wingul's excessive artistry around Gaius speaks for their intimate history, which spans longer than any others between the Chimeriad and their king. The two of them gave up their past to reach for the future together; Wingul disbanded Long Dau, and Gaius cut ties with his sister in order to protect her from those seeking to harm him. Amid these sacrifices, they supported each other in bringing Auj Oule to the people, though Wingul, with all his trust issues and love for the country, wasn't above scheming against Gaius in the event the latter became an unsuitable candidate for king; however, this ambition seemed to dissolve with Nils' death as he embraced Gaius as the undisputed ruler of Auj Oule.

Because Wingul and Gaius have a shared past that's so deeply rooted in the reconstruction of Auj Oule, their partnership represents the country's current ideals. Wingul was born into a higher station than Gaius, but now serves the man who proved himself on the battlefield and in politics. More importantly, they're the collective face of the dawning era – one of them would have to perish for the other to strive toward changes beyond the present framework. Auj Oule as it is now stands as the height of their ideals; anything more would need another mind with a different school of thought, particularly when Wingul's ethnocentrism pushes him to limit options that are risky by his reckoning. Considering this, it wouldn't be a stretch to claim that Wingul and Gaius operate as a single unit, much like two sides of the same coin with opposing qualities that highlight Wingul's logic and Gaius' heart.
