Present: Wingul the Nova

For some reason, the localization of Tales of Xillia decided to change Wingul's title ("Revolutionary") to "Nova." For the purpose of sectioning off the site, that suits me just fine.

Nearly 20 years after joining hands with Gaius, Wingul continues to serve his king with an iron fist. We're not being cute: Concerned with all matters of state, Wingul dislikes when Gaius leaves the castle without one of the Chimeriad. His brief exchange with Presa tells it all:

Presa: [His Highness] went to visit the coliseum.
Wingul: Alone?
Presa: He said he didn't need an escort.
Wingul: You shouldn't listen to him.

Don't listen to the king who makes Bad Choices. If Gaius is the charismatic face for his people, Wingul takes on the darker role of administration by suspecting and criticizing all who seem suspect or fail to meet his expectations. This is a task he thrives in due to his keen understanding of both strategy and people (despite the lack of thus in clothing that screams his shockingly bad fashion sense). However, Wingul's own beliefs and values as a leader and warrior sometimes prohibit him from empathizing with others, jeopardizing his competence as a negotiator, if succeeding as a ruthless advocate for his country the while – for this reason, he's especially critical of Rowen J. Ilbert the Conductor, a vaunted strategist for the country of Rashugal who "gave up," an action that goes against all of Wingul's principles.

Believing that 99% of a battle's outcome is decided by prior planning, Wingul is a meticulous workaholic who can't stay away from doing something once he puts his mind to it, insofar that Gaius has to issue break orders. In a similar vein, he only extends his trust and faith to his closest comrades and men, declining to plan around foreign regiments for maximum efficiency. He's a contradictory character who achieves moderation by swinging between extremes – distrustful yet risk-taking, and astute yet emotionally driven. At the end of the day, he gets his job done well and generally has his right to be abrasively judgmental while Gaius brushes aside his controlling tantrums with desensitized cool.
