❆ Exorcism

Cheng-Long is a staunch advocate of professional exorcism. He declines the prospect of living in harmony with demons, writing the notion off as absurd and judging those in endorsement irresponsible. The level of discipline Cheng-Long exhibits in his duties can be said to give Yukio, a workaholic in exorcism himself, a run for his money.

"Exorcising demons is an exorcist's job." — Cheng-Long to Yukio

Blue Exorcist the Movie tells the tale of Rin, the protagonist and half-human son of Satan, and a fellow demon by the name of Usamaro. If Usamaro is Rin's olden counterpart as a demon seeking coexistence alongside humans, Cheng-Long takes Yukio's side of the argument by holding staunchly to the exorcist's mission.

Cheng-Long is the picture of a veteran exorcist, reciting incantations and banishing demons with practiced ease and a confident smirk. His sense of humor on the job is macabre, making callous comments about burning down a building in order to smoke out a demon. At the end of the day, exorcising the demon is paramount to all else, including the environment and those within its perimeters, which places him at frequent odds with Rin.

In fact, Cheng-Long's pursuit of demons is like watching a sport. During an exorcism, he often appears smug and more than likely driven by adrenaline. Though serious about his duties, he isn't bogged by external stressors due to his clear sense of where he belongs and what he must do.

"In the name of my clan, I'll exorcise you!" — Cheng-Long to the Turner of Time

Cheng-Long's career and philosophies are largely influenced by his clan. The Lius brook no tolerance for demons sneaking around the human world, Assiah, and Cheng-Long is a powerful representative of this practice. Whereas Yukio's decision to be a professional exorcist is always brought into question by Rin, his older brother who thinks exorcism cruel, Cheng-Long seems to thrive with support from his like-minded clansmen.
